THe features of this camera is what sold me. 6x zoom, 12 mp, standard batteries, plus the ability to zoom while in movie mode. That says it all for me.
Customer Review: The Best in Its Class!
I take pictures of meetings and wanted a pocket camera with good low light handling because some people in the meetings don’t like to be disturbed by flash. I have owned and still own many pocket size digital cameras. But I end up having to carry my bulky SLR to the meetings because the pocket cameras don’t handle low light well. Another feature I want is the convenience of AA batteries instead of those special types. A2100IS meets both of my needs.

Other features, such as face detection, auto white balance, and button locations, are really great too.

Why did I remove one star? The low light pictures are still noisy, though acceptable (for the price). The flash does not reach far enough, so when I got a chance to use flash for a group of 8 people today against light, the picture turned out to be less satisfactory than the one without flash. You would normally expect dark faces without flash since it was against light, but the low light handling (along with face detection) turned out to work better than flash shooting.

This is Canon’s cheaper model, so they delay applying the more recent technology. A larger CCD like the one they use for SD990 (1/1.7″), plus a larger lens (f2.8 or better) would make this camera a dream. If SD990IS uses AA batteries, I would have already bought it.

Still, this camera is the best in its class and price range. If you don’t care about AA batteries and rather have a smaller and lighter camera to carry, and don’t mind a spending little more money, consider SD990IS.

formerly had JL 707 which died of old age. like the new model JL360
although the alternating radio/time flashing is a bit disconcerting as one of your previous reviews commented. Packing did not hold up well, arrived in torn container and damaged box but product seems to be working satisfactorily.
This one is better looking overall than the 707.
Customer Review: Projection time set separately from display time
The clock is okay. The strange part is that you set the time on the display and the projection separately. That’s kind of strange. And when you have the radio on, the station appears in the display instead of the time. Not just for long enough to find the station, but as long as you have it on. I wasn’t expecting either of those “features” on the clock.

I honestly don’t sew much. I didn’t think I could sew until I got this machine. In fact, I bought myself another machine years ago that I gave to my mom, because it was so hard to use. I just thought I couldn’t sew.

My son is now in scouts and they have so many patches to sew on. I decided I needed another sewing machine. Wow. I’m glad I got this one. It’s so easy to use, even for a novice like me. I couldn’t sew a straight line before, but now it’s easy. I even made my son a sleeping bag with buttons and an attached pillowcase. I sew all my son’s patches and do all the mending. It’s so easy. I simply follow the instructions that came with the machine.

Threading couldn’t be simpler. There’s a diagram imprinted on the top of the machine for reference. The automatic needle threaded works like a charm. The bobbin winds easily and all I have to do is drop it in and pull the thread through and it’s done. I remember the days when my mom, a seamstress, would have to thread her own machine. What a pain that was. Glad I don’t have to do it.

There are so many different feet that it comes with and all the necessary tools. I can choose the stitches by looking on the side of the machine and punching the button to match and the screen tells me which foot I need for that stitch. Cool.

This is the best investment in a sewing machine I’ve ever made. So easy to use, lightweight, comes with everything I need, and a great instruction book.

This is the second clock like this that I have bought for my church. We’ve had one in the council room for 2 years now and have not had any problems with it. Our council room is in the Northwest corner of the basement of a brick building and it has no problem receiving the signal. The clock works good, looks great, and it is not that expensive.

This is one of the first atomic wall clocks I purchased and it not only looks great but it works well, too! It’s quiet and its large numbers offer easy visibility from across the room. Customer Review: Fantastic camera!!!
Having used the Nikon P90 for a couple of weeks, I can honestly say I am 100% satisfied with its performance. I own a Nikon film SLR and find the performance/quality of the P90 to be comparable or better. I find its features easy to use right out of the box. It is definitely worth spending the time to go through the manual for the finer performance details, however, it is not essential if you simply want to put the camera in auto mode and zoom into all of those shots that you wanted to take with your point & shoot but were just too far away. No problem with the P90! The clarity/color of the super-zoom shots you take are simply breathtaking. Unless you are the type willing to pay, and knowledgeable enough to figure out, the $1500 + digital SLR, you will not notice the subtle improvements the digital SLR will provide. The zoom, sports “burst” mode & panorama assist are the features I love the best. This is an incredibly versatile camera. The only drawback, if you can call it a drawback, is its size. It won’t fit in your pocket. But find me a camera that performs like the P90 and fits in my pocket and I’ll buy it! Do yourself a favor, buy this camera. You won’t be disappointed!

Customer Review: Nikon D90 vs Canon PowerShot G5
After 6 years with my faithful G5 I decided to buy a new camera. Primary reason was shooting under poor light. First, I wanted to buy Canon G10, but I was disappointed with the quality of 15MP sensor. Then I wanted to buy Canon T1i, but I came out with Nikon D90. There are several reasons for that: reasonable pixel count, very good build quality, very useful and quite good kit lens (18-105), good raw conversion software (Capture NX) and attractive price at a moment.

So, what’s the filling when you leave 6 year old compact and start shooting with top quality SLR?

What I like about Nikon D90:

- Good high ISO capability. This is relief: you can peacefully shoot up to ISO 3200, while the G5 was out by the ISO 200. Also, Auto ISO is great in low light.
- Kit lens is great. I really missed wide angle before.
- Metering is very good, especially with flash
- D-Lighting is beautiful feature
- Very responsive and fast camera
- Display is gorgeous
- Lens servo capabilities are excellent
- Viewfinder is very good. I was afraid of that little window since I’m used to look on much larger display, but I have no problem using it (even with glasses).

What I dislike about Nikon D90:

- Autofocus dot in the viewfinder is not easy noticeable and you never really know do you have focus or not unless you turn on that beeping which is loud and irritating. My old G5 can change the volume and sound of autofocus beep, why D90 can’t?
- Quite heavy
- Awkward balance when you use a neck strap
- I didn’t think that would be the problem, but I miss that manual focus window that shows distance.
- Lens is slow. I know, it’s kit lens, it’s cheap, but I’m used to G5 F2.0-3.0. High ISO can compensate it, but not entirely.
- Live view is really done badly. But is still very useful feature in some situations.

What I still like about Canon G5:

- Size. The whole camera is as big as the 18-105 lens.
- Autofocus is actually quite fast in good light. (It’s the shutter lag that is the problem.)
- Fast lens. That F2.0-3.0 is really great thing. It’s disappointing that Canon put slower lens on new G7-G10
- Very little lens distortion.
- When you shoot in jpeg, you can still save the picture in raw while you reviewing it. That’s very useful trick that I miss on D90.

What I still dislike about Canon G5:

- Noise. G5 have more noise on ISO 200 than D90 on ISO 3200. ISO 400 on G5 is unusable.
- Red eyes are regular problem.
- Purple fringing is terrible.
- Very slow operation.
- Bad autofocus in low light.
- Lens not wide enough (35-140)
Customer Review: Fantastic, even for a first-time DSLR buyer
As a former film SLR owner, I appreciated the convenience of a point & shoot digital camera, and had been very happy with the many photos I’d taken with one over the past 8 years. Still, I had an itch to get back into the game with a DSLR. I seriously considered the D300, but opted for the D90 as a better choice for a first-time DSLR buyer. Even so, I was a bit worried that I would be overwhelmed by the D90’s complexity.

I needn’t have worried. The D90 has proven to be simple and intuitive, despite its almost unlimited flexibility. Each day that I use it I’m impressed all over again. The in-camera RAW processing was a revelation..I was amazed at the improvements I could make in adjusting exposure and white balance. During a vacation trip in Italy, I shot some indoor pictures in poor lighting conditions that with my old point & shoot would have been worthless, but with Active-D processing, it brought out all sorts of detail in the shadows.

Bottom line: the D90 has already earned a very solid reputation as a “prosumer” level camera, but even if you’re a first time buyer, I wouldn’t shy away from the D90.

Customer Review: This machine kills artists (not really, but it eats dresses)
I bought this sewing machine on the strength of the reviews of others, and I’m glad it’s working out for them and hey, you might get lucky too, but sewing with this machine was a horrible experience for me.

I bought it to replace an $150 Janome whose stitch selector my cat put off kilter when she knocked off a table. The first time I used this machine, I was impressed at the speed it sewed and I liked the awesome noise, however, I thought I noticed that the stitches were drifting slightly to the left. Since I was sewing black on black I didn’t care that much, but when I tried to sew on a lighter color fabric with a contrast thread it was really obvious that the presser foot is so low and so tight that it likes to yank fabric to the left. Rather than driving easily like with my old machine I found myself having to hold my fabric in a death grip, which never worked for long. In addition, trying to reverse over the edges of fabric would always result in a nasty scrunched up edge. The lowness of the presser foot also means it’s hard to sew over multiple layers of fabric, and I found it incapable of even reversing over a zigzag stitch without forming nasty lumps from getting caught on the presser foot half the time. And this is with lightweight fabric. I tried to use leather once, and immediately gave up and handstitched my project instead. That dinky old Janome I had was never intended for leather, but I made some fine things with it and it only stuttered when going over three layers or more. This couldn’t even do two layers of thin garment leather, and that’s with a proper leather needle. My one pro is that it does make a very firm strong stitch as long as you’re sewing on regular weight fabrics and you just want to use the straight stitch and you don’t care if that stitch is particularly straight. I guess that’s not a really big pro there.

Another thing I’ve had problems with is the stitch length selector. Out of the box everything seemed roughly in order, but after going down to a 1 stitch length and then going back up to longer stitches, they are all significantly shorter than before. I was cautioned away from new Singer machines and I really wish I had listened.
Customer Review: Singer HD110
I recently purchased the HD110. I read many of the reviews. Some I agree with and others I believe have no merit.
I found the HD110 lighting to be poor, but that is due to the needle threader which I find very helpful, so I use a lamp, no real problem!
The case is plastic, but I find it very sturdy. The only thing is on the back of the extension around the free arm does not go to the table and is a bit unstable. But again this is no real big problem for me.
It sews beautifully even through 6 layers of heavy canvas. I am currently sewing a dress of gingham and it wants to pull up but I will figure it out. I love the speed of the machine. I have sewen at a factory for 22 years and my old machine was sooo slow. I had a little problem sewing on knit but I am not ready to give it up, I again will figure it out. Threading it was a bit of a challenge, but I got it fiured out also. In all it is sewing what I want.
