water sensor was wrong! – Elana Berger –
although cute, not nearly as good as my penguin crane humidifier i bought a few years ago. maybe they changed them a little, but the red light was always on. i had to jiggle the machine to get the green light back. returned it to bed bath where i got it and am now testing out the duck. they didnt have the penguin!

I bought this for the baby’s room with Crane Demineralization Filter Cartridge. The perko picture looks just like the crane Frog Humidifier picture. At the bottom of the page it state Frequently Bought Together the Crane Demineralization Filter Cartridge with this product. NOT COMPATIBLE WITH CRANE FILTERS I feel the seller shoulder state this fact in the product information. I purchased this product and it was very cute. I opened my package and got what seemed to be a used product. There was water already in the tank, a large piece of plastic broken from the rim, and no instruction book. If you ask me, that is the definition of used. When I called about my problem, they said I had to return this one first, and then they would send a new one. They wouldn’t do any fast shipping at all to speed up the process, and I was told it might be a few weeks. Sorry but it’s not my fault you gave me a used product! I would not use this seller….very poor service.

I bought this humidifier in 2008 so I’ve used it for 2 seasons now. It puts a lot of water in the air! We have a 2200 sq. ft home and when it gets cold here in Ohio, I am refilling it about once a day to keep the humidity around 33%. I don’t understand the filter problems that some others have had. Maybe it’s the water source? We have city water and I am still using the orignal filter. I would reccomend this unit.

Became moldy in 2 weeks of normal use – Michael –
This machine is basicly a tube shaped sponge filled with water that air is pulled through. It did a really good job of humidifying my home, but after 2 weeks it began to smell musty. I opened it up and and the sponge was moldy. This is a horrible design and can’t be healthy for you. I returned it and bought a Hunter with a “permawick” filter. It doesn’t put out as much moisture as this one did, but it doesn’t mold and it doesn’t put out any white dust like the ultrasonic ones do.

If you like buying a dollar filter every month go for it.. But the wicking action slowly deteriorates over about 3 weeks… Your first week is great and by the time you get to the 3rd week, it can barely keep any moisure in the home as the wicking action is non existant. And no its not a single bad filter.. all 3 I have purchased did the same thing… Find one that has a positive wetting from dripping down rather than wickinig up… That was a waste of over 0

This humidifier works very well. It is cumbersome filling the water tanks. It does not cut off when there is no longer any water. The worst feature is the filter. It has to be dried everyday to prevent mold build up–too much work. If you don’t mind doing this to prolong the filter’s life, it’s alright. It must be removed if there is water in the tank–otherwise you will have a heavy buildup of mold.

These little things do a great job of keeping bacteria, etc from growing in my humidifier. I have been using my humidifier daily for 8 months, and these have really cut down on the number of times that I have to clean the tank. I usually buy them at my retail giant store for much less, but they don’t seem to carry them during the summer. I was willing to pay a little more this time just because I’ve gotten used to the convenience.

We bought this product to help with dry throats in the wintertime and with nightly use have been waking up in a far more agreeable state. Our hygrometer doesn’t really go up at all, but the difference with my throat is undeniable.

There are a few issues I have with this. 1.) The first is that is really isn’t all that quiet. I have been sleeping fine with it on but it is far from a whisper. Also, the fan runs at full bore and any adjustment of the intensity only adjusts how dense the vapor is when it comes out. 2.) There is also a glowing green light to let you know that it is on, if the whirring noise and vapor spewing out didn’t let you onto this. This just adds another intense light to your bedroom or wherever. 3.) You need to use distilled water in this or a white dust will accumulate everywhere. Also, a direct whiff of vapor revealed a strong mineral calcium smell. After a solid day of running, our 1,000 square feet looked smoky and dull, like a fog had rolled in. After switching to filtered water from a pitcher, things have gotten much better. 4.) Filling the thing is odd. You have to pluck out the blue water container, flip it over and twist off the lid. Why can’t this be on the top? This just seemed odd. I’m a fan of “form follows function,” so what’s the function of having to flip the thing upside-down?

Overall, after figuring out the filtering issue, I’m pretty happy with this thing, but I can foresee others being upset with some of the features. Do your research, figure out exactly what you need and what you are willing to spend and you may find yourself coming back to this model.

Oh, and just so you know, this is a sonic humidifier. It uses sound to atomize the water… and everything else in the water! Keep this in mind before purchasing. Would you rather have your minerals in the air, or crusted onto some heating element or the like?

The Best Humidifier – J. Pelcic –
I have tried a number of different types of humidifiers, and this one is by far the best. It is the quietest humidifier I have used, and on its highest setting it can humidify a large room with no problem. The only drawback to this product is that the water sensor (found on newer models) must be cleaned every couple of days. I have very hard water and it has a tendency to build up scale on the sensor. If the buildup is too great the unit shuts off. Like all humidifiers, there is the potential for white dust, so unless you have very soft water you need to use the filter cartridge.

I do need to recommend that everyone read the instructions first. If you look the the negative reviews on this site, you will find a number of people who refused to read the instructions before operating and then chose to blame the unit for problems that occurred.

We bought 4 of these in less than a year and the same thing keeps happening. After about 2.5 months it puts out about half of what it once did and simply goes south from there. I called and got the same insturctions read to me that were in the handbook…. the vinegar thing.,…. sometimes it helped for a night or two… but no more….
How does the government continue to let companies sell defective product…… I gave it two stars because when it is new it can get our rooms over 60% humidity.
I wouldnt buy any more…You shouldn’t either…

Our climate is normally humid, and we have had to put a towel underneath, it to protect any furniture. I would do this anyways, even if it didn’t spit out water. The rooms in our house run medium to a large open space. We have not had the problem others have mentioned, of it pooling on the floor. Nor have we seen any of the white dust other reviews mention, either.

I have, however, received the benefit, or rather, my children have, of this humidifier. Last year, my child had a bad cough. I had this brand humidifier and ran it 24/7. The pediatrician said it was good thing I had, otherwise, the cough could have become something more serious.

This year, I have two in school. I have had the occasional need to run it, when one of them starts sniffling. There have been many times, they are fine the very next morning.

The humidifier is not silent running, however, as someone else mentioned, the sound of it running does not bother my children, and it does lull them to sleep.

I also set one up in our living room, this past Christmas, because we had a live tree. I could tell a difference from doing that this year, and not having done that in previous years. Either we just lucked up on a really good tree, or the humidifier made a big difference.

We’ve been using this brand for at least two years and other than the occasional pooling around the opening, we have not had any major problems.

The phone number to re-order filters is on the back of the filter itself (the top of the frame, you may need to hold it under the light to read it). Also, I spoke to the manager of the parmacy we got the humidifiers from, and the manager keeps the filters in stock for us. If I don’t feel like going in person to the store, I order them online.

I have tried other brand humidifiers and not had as good a result in using them, as we have this brand and model. The others just did not raise the level of humidity to where it needed to be.

I give this one a four, because of the fact, yes it does spit water out around the opening. But it has not been a major problem for us.

We just bought this unit the other night. Horrible horrible. I should have read some reviews first. The biggest complaint is the soaked carpet even though we had a towel underneath the unit. I almost placed it on top of our nice wood nightstand so I got lucky there. The noise wasn’t too bad since it provided some white noise to sleep to. I returned it the next day and bought the Crane frog. It’s cute for the kids and didn’t drench anything.

When I first purchased this product I was very satisfied. The quality was much better than the old Walgreen’s humidifiers I used in the past. It was quiet and didn’t get mold in it.

After using about 6 times, the spinning wheel starting making the LOUDEST noise & nothing would stop it. I didn’t have the receipt & it’d been past 60 days so I couldn’t return it. (I only use this when I am ill therefore I’d had it over a year).

I looked at the website & called the customer service line & was unable to fix it. It does come w/a 2 year manufacturers warrenty but by time you pay for shipping/time/etc, its not worth the hassel.

I had to throw it away. In the end, I would NOT purchase this product again.

I had this for a year and loved it. Both of my children got sick and it helped them a lot. The vapor from vicks really smouth there cough and nasal congestion.

The trick is you NEED TO CLEAN IT EVERYDAY like every humidifier. If you don’t you’ll get your baby sicker. ALSO, it is really important to ask if your baby need a cool or a warm mist because this can also cause an aggravation of your child condition. Most children need cool mist but children with ashma or allergies shouldn’t use cool mist. You need warm mist.

Finaly the reason why I think it doesn’t get more than 3 stars it’s because it’s not easy to clean. I accidently broke one piece and I can’t find it anywhere so I have to buy another one.
