These little things do a great job of keeping bacteria, etc from growing in my humidifier. I have been using my humidifier daily for 8 months, and these have really cut down on the number of times that I have to clean the tank. I usually buy them at my retail giant store for much less, but they don’t seem to carry them during the summer. I was willing to pay a little more this time just because I’ve gotten used to the convenience.

I wish I didn’t have to use these, but the area I live in has the hardest water I’ve ever encountered. Even with a water softener the minerals remain and create a huge amount of white dust without these. Worth it if you live in an area with hard water and don’t want to spend a fortune on bottled water.

ProTec PC-1 Humidifier Tank Cleaning Cartridge (Pack of 2) Review
I’ve bought two of these tank drop-in “cleaners”, and yes it does prevent microbes, bacteria and mildew from ruining your humidifier. It also makes your filter last a lot longer. In the instructions it says it prevents the buildup of mineral deposits by attracting them to the cartridge rather than clogging your humidifier. This particular cartridge can be used in tanks up to 2 gallons in size and used for up to 30 days. If you don’t use your humidifier that much, you can take it out and let it dry, but only for a total of 30 days. Let’s say you only use the cartridge for a week, well then just take it out and let it dry and you got 23 more days of use out of it, however you want to use it. One week on, one week off whatever works for you, but like I said above only for a total of 30 days.
