Honeywell HCM-6012i QuietCare 11-Gallon Console Humidifier with Air Washing Technology Price

I bought this unit before Christmas ‘08 and the first one they sent had a faulty humidity sensor. Thanks to Amazon’s great return policy they promptly shipped another one. This one seemed to work just fine.

PROS:
* puts a LOT of water in the air (this thing is very powerful)
* will humidify my entire house (1,900 sq. ft.)
* extra large water capacity
* easy to regulate, clean and move about

CONS:
* can be noisy on highest setting (depending on your sensitivity)
* water canisters are oddly shaped and clumsy to refill
* will not turn off by itself when water runs out (due to poor engineering on the floating shutoff piece)
* tanks can rattle against each other as they drain and become lighter

I think the great water output makes up for the poor engineering on this thing. I’m very happy with how it performs and easily keeps my house at the desired humidity level.

Feature

  • Auto Shut-off at desired humidity or when tank is empty
  • EasySet Digital Controls; separate controls for speed, timer, humidity and ionizer
  • Quickfill system
  • Space-saving design
  • Easy to clean, carry and fill

defective wicking design – D. Cullum –
If you like buying a dollar filter every month go for it.. But the wicking action slowly deteriorates over about 3 weeks… Your first week is great and by the time you get to the 3rd week, it can barely keep any moisure in the home as the wicking action is non existant. And no its not a single bad filter.. all 3 I have purchased did the same thing… Find one that has a positive wetting from dripping down rather than wickinig up… That was a waste of over 0

Poor filter Life – G. J. HARDAWAY – Memphis, TN
This humidifier works very well. It is cumbersome filling the water tanks. It does not cut off when there is no longer any water. The worst feature is the filter. It has to be dried everyday to prevent mold build up–too much work. If you don’t mind doing this to prolong the filter’s life, it’s alright. It must be removed if there is water in the tank–otherwise you will have a heavy buildup of mold.

Quite Loud – Robbie Kendall – Chicago, Illinois, and Coburg, Germany
As good as this may humidify, the noise at night in our bedroom can become unbearable. It is not the motor itself that is the culprit; it is the frequency vibration – one plastic part against another. Unfortunately this can happen at any combination of fan level and the level of the tanks being full. The only possible solution that we have found thus far is to wedge Q-Tips between the parts at several points. But even this only works sometimes and one can still be woken up out of a deep sleep by a sudden jump in noise level.

Not so quiet, awkward design – H. Savage – Hamtramck, MI
I purchased the HCM-6012i for use as my home’s main floor humidifier. I moved my old 2003 Vornado HU1-0013-11 to my bedroom. The Honeywell does not compare well with the Vornado (which is no longer available) and I regret buying the HCM-6012i. I rate it fair, almost a one-star.
Cons:
The HCM-6012i vents horizontally, thus blowing on your legs or furniture.
The water tanks are awkward and do not sit squarely in a sink when refilling. The screw on caps may be too much for weaker hands.
Replacing the water tanks in the humidifier can be clumsy, I’ve already chipped one tank after one month of use. If not done correctly, the humidifier will vibrate.
Water containers hold less than the Vornado did.
At its quietest fan setting, hums noticeably, even when the tanks are perfectly in place. The Vornado is ultra quiet.
The water sensor will stop the fan before all the water has been wicked out. (I can see how this could be a positive feature, but I don’t like the idea of a wet humidifier wick and no air movement)

Pros:
It has casters and is easily moved (on one floor, at least).
Digital humidity readings and settings.
